The Word Sow as in planting seeds was gleaned as the Name of our organization from two texts in the Bible’s book of Mathew 13:31-32; Another parable set he before them saying, The kingdom of heaven is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: which indeed is less than all seeds; but when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the heaven come and lodge in the branches thereof; & Matthew 17:19-20; Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it our?” He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” We, at Sow CDC, believe that Sustaining Our World is about the Work of Planting the small things in barren neighborhoods knowing that they will foster the growth of Communities into Greatness.

Founded in 2014 Sow Community Development Corporation is an Illinois based 501(c)(3) Corporation, currently we are also approved to work in California, Indiana, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Missouri, Pennsylvania, & Wisconsin. We also, have been certified by the U.S. Department of Treasury‘s Community Development Institution Fund as a Community Development Entity, and March 6, 2020 Sow was certified by Fannie Mae & HUD as a Non-Profit Agency with he ability to purchase HUD-REOs .

Since 2017 we have worked with The National Community Stabilization Trust as a Community Buyer, where we’ve purchased over 109-properties from Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac, since January of 2018. Once purchased Sow CDC is responsible for the rehab and or redevelopment of each property. This program allows us to purchase and rehab foreclosed properties, and redevelop them for sale to new homeowners. Since 2018 we have also helped established and Opportunity Zone Fund (Reap Capital Partners), which we are working to access capital to rebuild & repurpose vacant and abandoned buildings, and begin construction on single & multifamily Infill housing, and commercial & manufacturing developments.

We must develop healing of the People & Land simultaneously. Thus we must plant food in the deserts and create Opportunity for Work.
